RICHARD LIN

1933 - 2011

“In the world of white, no one can exceed you.”

- Joan Miro to Richard Lin in 1970

Taiwanese modernist Richard Lin is considered as a precursor of abstract painting and the master of oriental and occidental aesthetics. In 1954, to the disbelief of his family, he renounced his inheritance to become an artist and started studying art and architecture in London, United Kingdom. Therefore, it is only natural that his works involve geometric and structural elements characteristic of the Bauhaus style. By bringing out the essence of minimalism, his unique style won critical acclaim by the international art world throughout his career. Clean and precise, he perfectly combined rationality and sensibility to create three-dimensional sculptures and installations.

His ability to synthetize both Eastern and Western philosophies is the reason our collection instinctively sparks a dialogue with him. Simplicity is often recognized as the hardest thing to achieve, and we are convinced that only Lin could have done it with such grace and wisdom.
